| Shula Edelkind |
 |
When Shula Edelkind’s second child became a behavior problem, she followed doctor’s orders: she took parenting courses and put him on stimulant medications. When he developed severe symptoms of Tourette syndrome (TS) the medications were stopped. One day Shula saw a TV show on the Feingold diet. While she didn’t have much hope that it would help her son’s behavior and tics, she tried it. Remarkably, within four days her son was behaviorally normal and within months there were no tics. Her son has been in permanent remission for 27 years, and excelled in his graduate studies. Shula is now webmaster and research librarian of the Feingold website, finding and sharing medical studies on the connection of diet, health, and behavior. She returned to school to study bio-psychology, graduating magna cum laude from Agnes Scott College in 1998. |

| Dr. Nowazek |

Dr. Nowazek has a Bachelor of Science with a chemistry major and math minor from Brandon University in Brandon Manitoba where he was born and raised. He is a strong believer in science and continues to use that knowledge to this day. Dr. Nowazek sustained a serious knee injury which convinced him to research naturopathic medicine and eventually change his plans to become a dentist, and instead apply to the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto.
Dr. Nowazek has been practicing since 1997 in Edmonton, and is an active member of several naturopathic associations. Dr. Nowazek first became interested in treating autism children out of patient necessity, he had people coming to him who had children with autism, and no one else was willing to take on this type of treatment. Although Dr. Nowazek does not have formal DAN training, he started treating autism children after researching and finding out about biological treatments for autism in 1999. He found out about Dr. Rimland, what he was doing, and some of the other pioneers of autism treatments. He then started biological testing and incorporating the DAN treatments, along with some standard naturopathic biological treatments for autism with great success. |
